Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong

Chairman of the Chan Soon-Shiong Family Foundation, Chairman and CEO of both the Institute for Advanced Health, and the Healthcare Transformation Institute (HTI)

Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong is committed to finding better ways to deliver healthcare in the United States through both multiple philanthropic en-deavors and business ventures, Dr. Soon-Shiong, a noted physician, surgeon and research scientist, has pioneered treatments in both diabetes and can-cer, published more than 100 scientific papers and holds 50 U.S. patents. Dr. Soon-Shiong has also developed and sold two multi-billion dollar pharma-ceutical companies, American Pharma Partners (APP) and Abraxis Biosci-ence (ABII).

Dr. Soon-Shiong holds a degree in medicine from the University of the Wit-watersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, and an M.S. from the University of British Columbia. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

ABOUT THE SERIES:

The CNSI and the IMED Seminar Series are teaming up to create a new educational seminar series that will be held once a month called Managing Inventions. These seminars will focus on the actual logistics of how to manage and build on discoveries here on campus. The goals of this series are to connect the UCLA community, bring to light available resources, and communicate the stories of successful discoveries.
