About Farhad Parhami
Farhad Parhami immigrated to the United States at the age of 13 after the 1979 revolution in Iran. His love of biological sciences guided him to choose a career in scientific research and his desire to step in the foot steps of his late father, who started one of the first pharmaceutical companies in Iran, guided him to explore the discovery of new therapeutics for human diseases.
Dr. Parhami obtained his Bachelor of Science in Biology from UCLA in 1989, and his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the Department of Pathology at UCLA under the mentorship of Dr. Judith Berliner in 1994. He obtained a faculty position at UCLA in 1996 and initiated his research studies in bone and cardiovascular disorders, and currently holds the title of Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. His training and experience include molecular and cellular biology, lipid metabolism, inflammation, and bone and vascular biology. His Bone and Vascular Biology Research Laboratory at UCLA has a number of full time scientists and several staff members, and is involved in training of doctoral and post-doctoral fellows. He serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals, and is a member of National Scientific Organizations including the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Heart Association, and the North American Vascular Biology Organization.
