The NanoCER program has been discontinued. For information about other summer research opportunitiesat UCLA please visit the website for UCLA Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) at

The Nanosystems Chemistry and Engineering Research (NanoCER) program was a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI). Undergraduates interested in chemistry and engineering learned how to be scientists and engineers by participating in teams that developed new materials, devices and applications of nanotechnology.

During a 10 week summer program, participants conducted hands-on, team-based research under the supervision of mentors, including graduate student fellows from the NSF-IGERT Materials Creating Training Program. NanoCER participants made use of sophisticated instrumentation and fabrication facilities and attended weekly research seminars, research and career skills seminars, as well as workshops on technical writing and applying to graduate school. At the end of the program participants presented a poster at a research symposium and a paper about their research. The program included social events with participants from other campus research and education programs.

Support for this Research experience for the Undergraduates (NanoCER) is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (Division of Chemistry) and the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI)
